- Check the label copy. A real aromatic bitters lists its core botanicals, gentian, cassia, cardamom, clove, and gives an ABV usually in the 35 to 45 percent range; a knockoff just says "bitters blend" with no percentages.

- Bottle glass matters. The liquid should sit in amber or cobalt glass to block light and slow flavor degradation; clear glass is a sign someone skipped a step to save on packaging.
- Price is a tell. Verified US sellers in this category run about $9 to $38; anything priced under that floor is almost always a relabeled bulk extract riding on a fake storefront.
