A quality rolling cone comes down to paper and the crutch, thin even-burning material and a filter tip that holds its shape. Cheap versions use flimsy paper that runs or canoes and a filter that collapses the second you pack it.
What to look for in a good rolling cones
- Paper weight and material. Look for a stated material like rice, hemp, or flax paper, thin knockoffs rarely say what the paper actually is.
- Pre-glued seam quality. Run a finger along the seam, a good cone holds a tight spiral with no gaps, a bad one splits or unrolls when you pack it.
- Filter tip construction. The crutch should be stiff enough to keep an open airway once you pack flower on top, flimsy card stock tips fold flat and clog.
- Price as a signal. Established sellers in this category run about $10 to $81, prices below that floor usually mean thinner paper and looser packing to hit a rock bottom number.
