What to look for in a good seedling pot
- Wall thickness. Squeeze the side of the pot; a decent one resists and springs back, while a thin knockoff dents and stays dented, which shifts the root ball every time you move it.
- Drainage holes. Look for several distinct holes punched through the bottom, not one thin slit that seals shut with the first watering and drowns the seedling.
- Stack and fit. Good pots nest and stack cleanly so they sit flush in a standard tray; warped or uneven ones wobble and tip once the tray is full.
- Price floor. Legit sellers in this category run about $5 to $60; anything priced well under that is thinner plastic and fewer holes dressed up in the same photos.
