What to look for in a good fighting knife
- Full tang construction. The steel should run the entire length of the handle in one solid piece, not a narrow rod welded or pinned to a separate hilt.
- Blade steel grade. Look for a named steel like 1095 carbon or 440C stainless with a stated Rockwell hardness, not just the word 'stainless steel' with no spec.
- Handle and guard fit. Grip scales should be bolted or pinned tight with zero flex, and the guard should sit flush against the blade with no gap where dirt or blood can work in.
- Price as a signal. Legitimate sellers in this category run $50 to $125; anything priced well under that is cutting cost somewhere in the steel, the tang, or the heat treat.
